Full Description
OPTION WITH TREK
Via dei Lagoni Boraciferi, 58025
Monterotondo Marittimo GR

(3 hours) The visit begins at the Parco delle Biancane, in Monterotondo Marittimo. After an introduction to the geothermal features of the area, the hike begins along the trail leading to Sasso Pisano.
The trail crosses white ridges, active degassing areas, Mediterranean scrub forests, and mineralized zones. Along the way, the guide explains geological and environmental aspects, showing how underground forces have shaped this landscape. The path is accessible with hiking shoes and some experience with hilly terrain.
At the other end of the trek, we reach the natural fumaroles area of Sasso Pisano, a powerful and fascinating environment where the ground boils and steam rises from the soil. Here, the guide completes the narrative, explaining the connections between tradition, energy resources, and biodiversity.
Distance 10 km (20 min)
Transfer by own means
Larderello, Piazza Leopolda
Geothermal Museum
(2 hours) The visit begins inside the Larderello Geothermal Museum, one of the most symbolic and fascinating sites of industrial Tuscany. Here, the guide takes visitors through the history of human interaction with geothermal energy: from early observations of natural phenomena, to pioneering experiments, to modern technologies. Only at the peak of this path does the most famous and revolutionary theme emerge: clean energy production. The museum experience is full of attractions: models, original documents, historical photographs, and multimedia installations tell the story of geothermal energy evolution and the importance of this territory on a global scale.
Accompanied by an expert guide, visitors immerse themselves in a path combining scientific education and landscape appreciation. The museum rooms show not only the power of nature but also the complexity of drilling networks, technological discoveries of the 20th century, and Larderello’s contribution to the energy transition, becoming an international model of sustainability.

Distance 2 km (5 min)
Transfer by own means
Larderello, Parco
Area Enel
After the museum visit, participants move independently, by their own means, to reach the high-pressure demonstration fumarole, located about two kilometers away. Here, the experience becomes more physical, almost theatrical: steam emerges forcefully from underground in a controlled explosion of energy and noise. Opening the geothermal valve produces a dense and continuous jet, visible from afar, breathtaking for first-time viewers. The sound is deep, immersive, and conveys the invisible power the Earth holds beneath its surface.
The guide leads the group to the edge of the safety area and explains, in accessible and engaging language, what happens underground: how the steam forms, how it is channeled and used, and why this type of energy represents one of the cleanest, safest, and most constant resources available today.

Shuttle service (on request)
The hike between Parco delle Biancane and the Fumaroles path makes the experience even more suggestive, but if preferred, you can choose to transfer between the two geosites by bus, organized independently. This option can be selected at the time of booking.

What Happens If the Group Is Late?
Punctuality is essential to ensure smooth service and avoid overlapping with other bookings.
Please do not arrive too early or too late. In case of delay, the duration of the service may be shortened. In the event of a major delay, the activity may be postponed or canceled according to our service conditions.
What Happens in Case of Bad Weather?
Guided tours of the Geothermal Museum take place regardless of weather conditions.
For outdoor activities (excursions, traverses, geosite visits), the management reserves the right to evaluate feasibility on the day, depending on weather conditions. In the event of heavy rain or adverse weather, the program may be modified, suspended, or canceled for safety reasons only.
Our staff will always do their best to ensure the scheduled activities can take place, even under less-than-ideal conditions.
Please wear appropriate clothing and bring rain protection.
In the event of cancellations or modifications due to force majeure, no refund will be issued, as these situations are beyond the organizer’s control.
What Happens If the Number of Participants Decreases?
Reductions in participant numbers communicated at least 10 days before the visit will be invoiced based on the actual number of participants.
After that deadline, refunds will be granted only up to a maximum of 10% of the total number of participants.
What Happens in Case of No-Show?
If the group fails to show up or does not cancel at least 48 hours in advance, 100% of the service cost will be retained as a penalty.
No refunds are issued for last-minute cancellations, as guides and staff are specifically scheduled and engaged for the reserved experience, dedicating time, resources, and organization to its successful execution.
The only exception applies to public force majeure events, duly documented, such as:
-
Official municipal or Civil Protection orders mandating school closures or travel bans, either from the point of origin or to the destination.
In these cases, official documentation (e.g. school notice, ordinance, public announcement) must be provided.
Personal circumstances such as illness, injury, or other impediments, even if certified, do not constitute grounds for refund, as they are not recognized among the conditions for cancellation.

DISCOVER THE BREWERY
Vapori di Birra
Geothermal Craft Brewery
While visiting the Fumarole Park of Sasso Pisano, you have the perfect opportunity to discover Vapori di Birra — the first brewery in Italy to use geothermal steam as its main source of energy. An innovative project that combines brewing tradition, environmental sustainability, and local production.
The brewery was founded with the idea of enhancing local resources by harnessing clean, renewable energy from the Earth to power the entire production process. Thanks to a specially adapted system, Vapori di Birra minimizes its environmental impact while ensuring maximum energy efficiency.
In an age of industrial and globalized production, Vapori di Birra embraces the path of craftsmanship: natural raw materials, a controlled supply chain, and a philosophy that places ecology at its core. A challenge that smells of malt — and speaks of the future, deeply rooted in the warm heart of Tuscany.
