Descrizione completa

Larderello, Piazza Leopolda
Geothermal Museum

(2 hours) The visit begins inside the Larderello Geothermal Museum, one of the most symbolic and fascinating sites of industrial Tuscany. The exhibition guides visitors through the relationship between humans and geothermal resources over time: from the first observations of natural manifestations, through pioneering experiments, to modern technologies. At the peak of the visit, you reach the most revolutionary topic: clean energy production.

The museum experience is rich in stimulating content: scale models, original documents, historical photographs, and multimedia installations trace the evolution of geothermal energy and highlight the global importance of this territory.

Accompanied by an expert guide, visitors follow a path that combines scientific education, local history, and technological development. The museum rooms showcase both the power of nature and the complexity of drilling networks, technological breakthroughs from the 19th and 20th centuries, and Larderello’s ongoing contribution to the energy transition, establishing it as an international model of innovation and sustainability.

Larderello, Demonstration Steam Jet

After the museum visit, participants travel independently to the demonstration steam jet, located about 2 kilometers away. Here, the experience becomes more physical and engaging: steam bursts forcefully from the ground in a controlled explosion of energy and sound. Opening the geothermal valve produces a dense, continuous jet visible from a distance, leaving first-time observers in awe. The deep, enveloping sound conveys the immense, invisible power beneath the Earth’s surface.

The guide leads the group to the perimeter of the safety zone and explains, in clear and engaging language, what happens underground: how steam forms, how it is channeled and used, and why this form of energy is today one of the cleanest, safest, and most consistent resources available.

(2 hours) In the early afternoon, the experience continues at Biancane Park, a unique area where geothermal activity is visible on the surface, producing spectacular natural phenomena. The guided itinerary follows a circular route, partly overlapping on the way out and back and partly alternating, to provide a complete and surprising view of the landscape.

You will walk among steaming rocks, bubbling pools, and hills sculpted by centuries of geothermal activity. In some areas, the ground is completely white due to alterations caused by deep fluids, giving the park its name: the “biancane” are the typical geological formations shaped by steam and mineral activity. The primordial atmosphere, along with unusual colors and odors, makes this excursion a fully immersive sensory experience.

The guide explains these extraordinary natural phenomena, clarifying the geothermal processes, the origin of fumaroles, and the importance of these ecosystems for biodiversity and human-environment balance in a territory that has coexisted with Earth’s energy for centuries.

Between steps, you will observe surprising color contrasts, hear the muffled hiss of escaping steam, and feel the warmth radiating from the ground—a truly unforgettable experience, especially for first-time observers of the Earth’s active surface.

(2 hours) In the early afternoon, the experience continues at Fumarole Park, a geothermal area of high scientific interest where the Earth’s heat manifests through steam columns, fumaroles, and thermal pools. The guided route follows carefully designed paths to provide a complete view of the geothermal phenomena and their interaction with the surrounding landscape.

The visit includes exclusive access to a protected area—a unique geosite normally closed to the public. Entry is allowed only with a guide, for safety reasons and to protect the delicate geothermal features.

Walk among warm rocks, steaming vents, and mineral formations, observing up close how underground activity shapes the terrain and ecosystem. Fumarole Park derives its name from the natural gas emissions constantly escaping from the soil, creating spectacular and surprising scenery.

The guide explains the chemical and physical processes behind geothermal phenomena, the origin of gases and fumaroles, and their critical role in local biodiversity. The guide also details how humans have historically interacted with these natural resources, using them for energy and scientific study.

Order of the Itinerary

The itinerary order varies depending on the chosen departure time. Morning departures start at the Geothermal Museum, followed by the Demonstration Steam Jet and then the selected geosite. Submitting the form does not constitute a confirmed booking. It is an informational request that initiates direct contact with the organizers.
The booking becomes effective only upon receipt of confirmation by email from the organizers.

Until payment is made, the experience is not officially confirmed, and the selected date remains provisional.
The option will automatically expire if not reconfirmed within the agreed time frame.

What Is an Option?

During booking, you can select the “Provisional Option” box.
An option is a request for availability that lets you express interest in a specific experience without any obligation.
It is often used when the client still needs to finalize other aspects of the trip (e.g. accommodation, transportation) but wishes to secure a tentative date.

Each option has a set expiration date, which will be sent via email.
If the client does not confirm the booking by that deadline, the option automatically expires. The duration of the option depends on how far in advance the requested date is.

How to Pay?

The balance must be paid within a few days of receiving the electronic invoice. Only if a fiscal receipt is requested may payment be made on site.

If invoicing is required and the booking is made within the same month as the visit, payment must be made in a single transaction. For bookings totaling up to €200.00, payment is due immediately after the final agreement.

Accepted payment methods for invoiced bookings include:
Bank Transfer, Postal Order (pre-filled on request), or Credit Card in the name of the VAT holder indicated on the invoice.

How Are Transfers Between Sites Managed?

For all activities, your own vehicle is required, especially when the itinerary includes multiple sites located some distance apart. Transfers are not included in our services, and no dedicated shuttle is provided.

Transportation must be arranged independently.

Distances between sites are manageable:

  • Geothermal Museum ↔ Soffione: approx. 2 km

  • Monterotondo ↔ Sasso Pisano: approx. 10 km

  • Monterotondo ↔ Larderello: approx. 20 km

Each stop must therefore be reached by your own means (car or coach) following the directions provided upon booking.

If you have difficulty arranging transport, contact us — we’ll help you find the best solution.

What Happens If the Group Is Late?

Punctuality is essential to ensure smooth service and avoid overlapping with other bookings.

Please do not arrive too early or too late. In case of delay, the duration of the service may be shortened. In the event of a major delay, the activity may be postponed or canceled according to our service conditions.

What Happens in Case of Bad Weather?

Guided tours of the Geothermal Museum take place regardless of weather conditions.

For outdoor activities (excursions, traverses, geosite visits), the management reserves the right to evaluate feasibility on the day, depending on weather conditions. In the event of heavy rain or adverse weather, the program may be modified, suspended, or canceled for safety reasons only.

Our staff will always do their best to ensure the scheduled activities can take place, even under less-than-ideal conditions.
Please wear appropriate clothing and bring rain protection.

In the event of cancellations or modifications due to force majeure, no refund will be issued, as these situations are beyond the organizer’s control.

What Happens If the Number of Participants Decreases?

Reductions in participant numbers communicated at least 10 days before the visit will be invoiced based on the actual number of participants.

After that deadline, refunds will be granted only up to a maximum of 10% of the total number of participants.

What Happens in Case of No-Show?

If the group fails to show up or does not cancel at least 48 hours in advance, 100% of the service cost will be retained as a penalty.

No refunds are issued for last-minute cancellations, as guides and staff are specifically scheduled and engaged for the reserved experience, dedicating time, resources, and organization to its successful execution.

The only exception applies to public force majeure events, duly documented, such as:

  • Official municipal or Civil Protection orders mandating school closures or travel bans, either from the point of origin or to the destination.

In these cases, official documentation (e.g. school notice, ordinance, public announcement) must be provided.

Personal circumstances such as illness, injury, or other impediments, even if certified, do not constitute grounds for refund, as they are not recognized among the conditions for cancellation.
